Conventional methods for label application constrain innovation and iteration – imposing limits on design flexibility and production efficiency. Now with LasX’s high-speed, high-resolution laser marking technology, agility is the name of the game. “LaserSharp® Marking uses LasX’s unique control technology to mark high-resolution graphics directly on bottles and other packaging materials at much faster rates than conventional laser marking,” explained Tom Weigman, VP of Technology at LasX. As lasers and motion technology continue to advance, LasX’s control platform does too – synchronizing laser motion and pulsing several million times per second, leading to high resolution and quality at extremely high speeds.
A Greener, More Sustainable Solution
LaserSharp® Marking does not use traditional PSA and shrink label materials, PSA release liners, inks, adhesives, and other materials traditionally required for label application. This approach reduces waste and enables mono-material packaging, helping brands meet their sustainability goals without sacrificing aesthetic appeal.
Already by requiring fewer packaging materials, this technology can aid in package sustainability metrics. Additionally, P&G is currently working to provide sufficient data to gain both the APR and Recyclass certifications for a range of packaging resins including HDPE, PE, and PET carrying LaserSharp® markings.

LaserSharp® Marking reaches surface areas that pressure-sensitive labels, shrink, or direct ink printing can’t – unlocking novel design possibilities across the entire packaging surface.

LaserSharp® Marking technology enables on-demand production and a more cost-effective approach, compared to alternative methods that are often operationally complex and disjointed. Changes to the label to address product updates or respond to new regulatory requirements can be made with fewer steps, improving agility and reducing scrap and other costs.

LaserSharp® Marking technology is digitally reconfigurable, making the process of serialization, variable data (“best before”, “sell by”, etc), or language variation easy to achieve. Variable information can be integrated directly into the packaging surface, versus having to reserve space on the package for downstream incorporation – eliminating the need for digital printing.
