LasX releases new version of core technology: Meet Proton λ

I am looking forward to working with customers to realize their manufacturing challenges, leveraging Proton λ as a springboard for future designs.

ST PAUL, Minnesota, May 16, 2023

From textiles to aircraft soundproofing, LasX continues to deploy its patented technology to tackle a variety of unique manufacturing challenges. The company's growing application complexity requires a technology portfolio that seamlessly integrates and scales based on changing customer and market demands.

This is where LasX's industrial process controller, Proton, comes in.

For over 25 years, LasX’s process controllers have played a key role in delivering capabilities not seen in other technology solutions, including:

  • our patented model-based laser depth control
  • accurate high speed "vision-on-the-fly" laser processing
  • true order-of-one processing
  • high-speed laser etching

Now LasX is set to release a new version of Proton — Proton λ — that will be ready for mid-summer 2023 integration. (Note: Proton λ is completely upgradable for all LasX laser equipment.)

So what makes LasX's next gen process controller different? Put simply, Proton λ's compact design enables the flexibility and scalability needed for future manufacturing challenges. Through its simplified hardware, modular components, and increased processing power capabilities, LasX can:

  • Laser process at ultra-high speeds and high resolution, allowing the company to pursue new raster applications (large-scale, high-resolution bitmaps in addition to vector images)
  • Mark or etch detailed patterns at extremely high speeds without thermal damage at bitrates (individual control of laser pulses) up to several megahertz
  • Help customers realize previously impossible laser processing functionality into their equipment solutions

Having the right technology tools in place is key for success and LasX's next gen process controller is a culmination of the company's decades of manufacturing experience. "I am looking forward to working with customers to solve their manufacturing challenges, leveraging Proton λ as a springboard for future designs," concludes Tom Weigman, VP of Technology at LasX.
