Adjustable fields of view for maximum versatility.

The LaserSharp® LPM Flex Series is a roll-to-roll laser system designed exclusively for the flexible packaging industry to produce easy-open, breathable, and anti-counterfeit features in flexible films. What differentiates the LPM Flex Series from similar laser processing equipment is the ability to adjust its processing field of view to adapt to different applications. Its programmable laser modules include adjustable processing areas with auto-focusing capabilities, offering a reliable beam spot size for specific applications based on the selected process area. This feature eliminates costly down time for refocusing the laser beam and calibrating position. Designed for versatility, the LPM Flex Series offers the advantages of localized laser processing including patterned microperforation as well as cross web and down web straight line and contour processing.

System Advantages:

  • Produce sub 100 µm holes and full cross web scores on a single machine (material dependent)
  • Fully sealed laser modules require zero maintenance and no beam alignment
  • Non-contact, clean, high speed processing method, ideal for food packaging
  • Each laser module is independently controlled by our patented LightGuide control software from one convenient user interface
  • Adjustable process area with automatic focus
  • Run intermittent patterns by print registration or distance
  • Optional vision registration ensures precise alignment of laser processing to printed details
  • Multiple lane processing
  • Linear module rails allow each laser processing module to be manually positioned at the desired location across the web
  • Down web (machine direction) and cross web (transverse) capabilities
  • No consumables or tool wear
  • Process on the fly

Feature

Benefit

Process Area

Increase processing options with the ability to automatically adjust the processing area of view between multiple sizes ranging from 140 mm to 600 mm.

Multiple Processes

Laser score, microperforate, and etch in a single production run. Straight line, contoured line, and patterned processing are all achievable.

Precision

Registration sensors and vision cameras integrated directly with the system automatically control processing in response to print cues, giving you unsurpassed precision and material usage.

Material Handling Options

The LPM Flex Series can be integrated into new or existing slitter-rewinder, pouching lines, or any other web-based machine.

Laser Power

Output power options include 40 to 400 Watts.

Application Variety

Easy open features in bags and pouches, etched security features or product identification, venting for rapid fill packaging, microwave steam release features, and breathable or Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP).

Suitable Materials

PVDC Barrier and Polyolefin Shrink Films, Polyester, Polypropylene, Polyethylene, and Nylon films.

System Options

  • The GT option uses optimized beam steering motors to accelerate and decelerate three times faster than the standard system, resulting in faster processing speeds.
  • The Unicorn™ option is manually inserted into the laser module to provide even higher quality down web scoring capabilities. This option requires additional sensors and the LightGuide LDM software option.
  • TrackSoft® web tracking control package allows for dynamic adjustment of laser pattern
in response to the lateral movement of the web or print line.
